Sustained Investigation

During my junior year of high school, I took AP 2D Art and Design. A major part of this course is the creation of a “Sustained Investigation,” in which you choose to explore a particular topic through your art. My topic centered around interior design:

Every interior, extravagant or ordinary, says a great deal about its owner. For my investigation, I explored the topic of how interiors tell the stories of the people living in them, and how can they make us feel certain emotions. My SI begins with an examination of the spaces that are the most private/personal, like a bedroom or a bathroom. My focus then shifts to the more communal spaces that groups of people/families occupy together. Through each of these rooms, I emphasize and hone in on the intimate details that make spaces unique, as well as the feelings and memories that they hold. To truly capture the essence of all of the interiors in my investigation, I experimented with various oil painting techniques so that I could maximize the texture and color in each piece. Some of the pieces are more impressionistic to convey the feeling/atmosphere of the interior, while others focus more on the smaller details to tell a story. I also manipulated perspective and proportion in most of the pieces.

Pet Portraits

Over the years, I have worked on many pet portraits for my friends and family. These include graphite drawings, acrylic paintings, and illustrated greeting cards. I love capturing the personalities of all of our furry friends!
